About 4 or 5 days ago, I took a look at my nails and thought "I want bright colors and something unique!"; so I pulled out several of my brightest nail polishes and tried to think of something awesome...I was stumped! I sat there and looked at my four walls, as if that would give inspiration (lol), but nothing.
Then I thought, YouTube has videos about EVERYTHING, there must be a tutorial that would pique my interest, and sure enough, I was right! :)
So, with my basic choice of words, I searched "awesome nail designs" on YouTube and TONS of water marbling videos showed up! The first video I watched was that of a SimpleLittlePleasures :) When the video was over...I was hooked!! I continued to watch more and more of her videos to make sure that I understood the technique. Then I went for it!! Here is my first try @ water marbling:
and my closeup :)
I chose to only do one nail on each hand, due to time constraints, but you are NOT just limited to one nail! :) :)
I truly recommend for all ladies to try water marbling, at least once! Although it was my first, I go so many compliments on it! In my opinion, it's all about trial and error. If you do it once, and you aren't too excited about the design you can try again and again :)
*****Supplies*****
- Orange Stick (or any kind of stick, even a toothpick will work)
- Nail Polishes (White polish for your base, Top Coat, 2-3 colors)
- Scotch Tape
- Paper/Plastic Cup
- Filtered (bottled water)
*****Instructions:*****
Before I started anything, I learned by watching several of SimpleLittlePleasures videos to use a white polish as my base. It will make the colors of your water marbling design bright and stand out! Without using a white base, dull and lifeless colors will be your result; and you don't want that!! lol
- Fill your plastic/paper cup up with filtered water. (Remember not to fill it too high because you need room to dip your fingers in without making a mess)
- Tape whichever fingers you would like to do the water marbling on (If you'd like to do it for all 10 nails, only do one hand first, taping all 10 fingers will make it a hassle to pick up the top of the nail polish)
- Using the nail polishes you've picked out, begin dropping the nail polish in the water one by one creating a "bulls eye" of colors. Be mindful of the fact that the polishes will dry on the surface quickly, so you must be consistent in not leaving too much of a time interval in between drops.
- After your "bulls eye" is complete, (using your stick), begin making a design that suits YOU and your awesomeness. When you are satisfied with the design, dip your nail in! Using that same stick, move the excess nail polish off of the surface of the water. Pull your finger out and Voila'!!!
*repeat as desired to complete all of the other nails*
and....
Don't forget your Top Coat!!
